Starting a Digital Community

  • Trying to decide what type of communities to create? Send a survey to find out more about everyone’s interests and create communities based on the top answers.
  • Company Parents, Pets, Foodies and Travelers can be great places to start.
  • To kick off the new community, make it personal. Share why you care about this topic and what you want to get out of it.
  • Pull people into the conversation by tagging them in posts and/or asking open-ended questions.

Company Contests

  • Keep it simple! When setting up a contest, the easier the “ask,” the more responses you’ll see.
  • Consider incentivizing participation with prizes – company swag, points, gift cards, etc.
  • Encourage people to use a certain hashtag with their posts so it’s easy to tally the results.

Recognizing Employees

  • Have a dedicated space for peer-to-peer recognition to live.
  • Be a role model – recognize someone on your team and set a calendar reminder to do so regularly.
  • Add a photo or a fun gif to keep things exciting.
  • Try starting a recognition train – when someone is recognized, ask them to recognize someone else and keep the train moving!

Make Meetings Better

  • A few days before your meeting, send out a survey to collect questions and topics from your team.
  • Consider setting your survey to collect responses anonymously to get more candid responses.
  • Use your digital community to host an icebreaker ahead of time or to kick things off. Ask attendees to share a photo on a relevant topic. During the meeting, have people share why they chose the photo they shared.
  • Share resources like agendas or key takeaways in a channel where they won’t get buried by work-related posts.

Photo Campaigns

  • Keep it simple – the easier the ask, the more posts you’ll get.
  • It can be intimidating to go first. Ask a few friends to post right away to get things started.
  • React and comment on posts from other colleagues to encourage and reward people for participating.
